In the heart of Greece, a passionate team of scientists is reshaping the future of farming. MultiBioCrop was born out of a shared ambition: to free European agriculture from its reliance on chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
As the European Green Deal accelerates the phase-out of agrochemicals, MultiBioCrop offers a timely and transformative solution.
Their mission? To provide farmers with a sustainable, effective and science-based alternative for plant protection and nutrition.
MultiBioCrop joined the EIT Jumpstarter 2024 programme in the Food category and walked away with a second place and €5,000. But for co-founder Panagotis and the team, the financial prize was just one piece of the puzzle.
“The programme gave us much more than funding,” Panagotis explains. “We gained access to expert mentors, developed a clear go-to-market strategy, and most importantly, we validated our business model with real feedback.”
Through workshops, tailored coaching and exposure to a pan-European innovation network, the team refined their value proposition and laid the groundwork for their spin-off company.
MultiBioCrop’s core product is a novel biological formulation that combines selected strains of endophytic fungi with other natural compounds. It simultaneously tackles pests, pathogens and soil depletion—problems usually addressed by multiple chemical treatments.
This multi-action solution supports plant health from the roots up, enabling farmers to meet new environmental regulations while maintaining crop yields. It’s the first formulation of its kind to offer both biocontrol and biofertilisation in a single, field-ready product.
During their EIT Jumpstarter journey, the team didn’t just learn—they executed. They developed a full business plan, shaped a go-to-market approach, and completed promising lab-scale efficacy trials. Two agricultural cooperatives have already expressed interest in piloting the formulation in real-world field tests.
This momentum marks a critical step towards market entry, supported by early stakeholder interest and growing awareness of the regulatory shift away from chemicals in food production.
MultiBioCrop is preparing for a pivotal year. Their roadmap includes raising seed funding, initiating the patent process, and securing regulatory approval. Plans for a dedicated production unit are also underway.
Their long-term goal? To become a leading player in sustainable agriculture solutions, with a product portfolio tailored to the evolving needs of European farmers.
By combining science, sustainability and a clear market vision, they aim to help the agricultural sector become both greener and more resilient.
MultiBioCrop’s journey proves that science and entrepreneurship can go hand in hand to create a healthier, more sustainable world. Curious how your idea could grow with EIT Jumpstarter?
