Starting from a Mission to Solve Waste Sorting

Deltasort, a start-up based in Croatia, is tackling a critical issue in the recycling industry: inefficiencies in plastic waste sorting.

Their solution? Intelligent, data-driven robots that can seamlessly integrate into existing sorting lines, with no retrofitting required.

That’s when Deltasort was born. Co-founded by Filip Kuzminski and Petar Slaviček, the start-up is on a mission to help the recycling industry sort more, waste less, and reduce CO₂ emissions—with the help of AI.

The EIT Jumpstarter Push

In 2024, Deltasort joined the EIT Jumpstarter programme in the InnoEnergy category. The support came at a crucial time.

We had a great mentor and feedback sessions as well as experience and networks from the main event,” says Filip.

Thanks to this structured guidance, Deltasort didn’t just sharpen its business model, it gained clarity.

“We clearly defined our value and ideal customer profile,” he adds. That clarity helped the team refine their pitch and ultimately secure 2nd prize in the InnoEnergy category, earning a €5,000 award to fuel their next steps.

Automating Waste Sorting with AI

Deltasort builds AI-powered robots designed to sort plastic packaging waste in existing facilities. Their innovation lies not just in the use of advanced technology, but in the ease of adoption. Facilities can automate sorting without any need to alter their existing infrastructure—a key advantage in an industry where downtime and retrofitting are costly.

From Prototype to Market Readiness

Throughout the Jumpstarter programme, Deltasort made real progress. They:

  • developed their second-generation prototype, ready to be deployed in real-world conditions.
  • Secured EU funding to support this development and move towards market validation.

The connections made during the programme expanded their reach, exposing them to potential partners and future investors across Europe.

What’s Next?

Deltasort’s next goal is to launch its first pilot installation and prove the system’s efficiency in live conditions.

From there, the team aims to close an investment round and prepare for broader commercial deployment. With their eyes on European sorting plants and global sustainability goals, the start-up is well-positioned to make a lasting impact.

“We started Deltasort because we wanted to do more, for society and for ourselves.”

From vision to validation, Deltasort is showing how technology and purpose can shape a cleaner future—one sorted bottle at a time.
