Rediscovering Urban Beauty Through Science and Storytelling

UrbanGeoWonders was born from a simple but powerful question: What if every building could tell its story – past, present, and future?

Based in Ukraine, this innovative start-up is transforming how cities understand, preserve, and plan for the future of their architectural heritage. Combining geology, history, and cutting-edge software, UrbanGeoWonders helps users see buildings not just as structures, but as evolving organisms shaped by time, nature, and human hands.

The team’s mission is to reduce urban decay, prolong the life of city structures, and shift how we value the built environment. Whether it’s a real estate firm assessing a property’s long-term potential or a tourist company designing heritage routes, UrbanGeoWonders makes building data both meaningful and actionable.

The EIT Jumpstarter Journey

In 2024, UrbanGeoWonders joined the EIT Jumpstarter programme in the New European Bauhaus category. At the time, the start-up was still at the idea stage – but full of ambition. Thanks to expert mentorship, focused training, and a network of like-minded innovators, the team sharpened their business model, identified their Beachhead Market, and began developing their MVP.

The programme gave us access to real feedback, market insights and coaching we would never have had otherwise,” said co-founder Yuliia. “It helped us move from vision to concrete steps.”

Their effort was recognised with a 3rd place prize and €2,500 in funding – a validation of both their idea and the impact it could have.

A Digital Tool to Extend the Life of Cities

At its core, UrbanGeoWonders is a software-based service powered by proprietary algorithms. It creates an interactive database that allows users to assess the historical, technical, and geological value of buildings and structures. The platform uses AI to visualise the condition of buildings over time, offering predictive insights on structural decay, lifespan extension opportunities, and optimal material use.

The software also supports virtual and physical urban tours, making it valuable for tourism and cultural preservation. Users include real estate agencies, city planners, construction firms, and even private owners who want to better understand the state and value of their properties.

Rapid Development with Strong Vision

Since completing the programme, UrbanGeoWonders has made remarkable progress. The team has:

  • Defined their competitive advantage across multiple customer segments

  • Built a prototype for their historical/geological calculator

  • Started testing their MVP with early adopters

  • Refined their go-to-market strategy with feedback from mentors and users

By targeting the construction industry, real estate professionals, private owners, and tourism operators, the platform adapts its value proposition to diverse needs. For instance, it could increase real estate profit margins by up to 15%, or extend the structural lifespan of buildings by a decade.

What’s Next?

The next phase for UrbanGeoWonders involves product testing and signing their first agreements with pilot customers. Their ambition is to scale across Europe, particularly in regions with high concentrations of vulnerable historical architecture. They also see opportunities in climate-resilient city planning, sustainability management, and digital heritage preservation.

Their long-term goal?

To be the go-to tool for evaluating the past and future of urban landscapes — combining beauty, data, and impact.

“We wanted everyone to see and realise the beauty, geology and uniqueness in every city building”

UrbanGeoWonders is helping Europe reimagine its cities — not just as they are, but as they could be.
