What began as a classroom concept is now a start-up redefining how young minds engage with climate science.
Founded by Pablo Zuloaga Betancourt, POWAR STEAM is on a mission to empower students to explore the environment through real-world data and experimentation. With a focus on accessibility and scientific thinking, they’re building the tools schools need to turn theory into action.
POWAR STEAM joined the EIT Jumpstarter 2024 programme with a clear goal: transform their educational concept into a scalable business.
Over several months, they received expert mentoring, business training, and ecosystem support, all essential for turning a grassroots idea into a viable start-up.
The programme culminated in a first-place win in the New European Bauhaus category, along with a €10,000 prize.
At the heart of POWAR STEAM’s solution is the P-BIT Environmental Mini-Computer, a compact, classroom-ready device that enables students to measure real-time environmental data, with no coding required.
Designed for hands-on inquiry, it currently monitors temperature, humidity, light, soil moisture, and noise, making it easy for students to conduct their own experiments and think like scientists.
But the P-BIT is just one part of the broader educational ecosystem:
POWAR CS Climate Simulator – A desktop chamber that simulates future climate scenarios (e.g. “Barcelona 2050”) to study plant growth under changing conditions.
AI-Powered Scenario Generator – A digital tool that helps teachers create curriculum-aligned activities, rooted in the EU Green Skills Framework and UNESCO’s Greening Curriculum.
Together, these tools enable schools to integrate sustainability into everyday learning.
The EIT Jumpstarter programme provided more than just funding — it gave structure and confidence. POWAR STEAM used the €10,000 award to begin manufacturing their first commercial batch of P-BIT units. They’re now undergoing lab testing and certification to ensure safety and durability for classroom use.
They also validated their concept through pilot programmes in Spain and Croatia, reaching over 350 students and 50 teachers across eight schools. The Croatia pilot, supported by Erasmus+, helped refine usability and classroom integration.
Looking ahead, the team is scaling up:
Their vision remains focused on empowering the next generation of climate innovators — by putting real tools in their hands.
POWAR STEAM’s journey shows what’s possible when purpose meets support.
For anyone with an idea worth building, Pablo offers a final piece of advice: “Join communities that challenge and support you. That’s where growth happens.”
